Home again

Been home for over a week and caught the flue, oh, joy! I haven’t been able to do much around the house and it is beginning to make me grumpy. I’ll get well soon enough and then I’ll plant a couple of trees.

I am glad I have my little home when I’m sick, way better than being at someone’s home or a motel. Here I can scuff about in my jammies and make tea and toast, heat up some chicken soup and dash for the john when needed without making a fuss. I can leave my bed unmade which is rare for me, and take a nap when and where I want to.

The wind is howling and peacock next door is hollering for a mate I guess he or is it a she sounds like a cat sometimes, just adds to the charm 🙂

Oh my gratitude to the Jamison Distillery Dublin Ireland for making a fine whiskey that goes well with tea and honey or with coffee and whipped cream. This concoction has helped me get through this flue.

A little rain

Vail and Tucson got some rain yesterday, most of the day it rained not a downpour just a nice steady rain this may have done the plants and trees some good. Driving in the rain in Arizona is a treat as folks don’t have sense to slow down. I had my doctor’s appointment to discuss my test results; seems everything is fine except for one medication that doesn’t seem to be doing its job. I got a new prescription and had to take it to a special pharmacy to get filled, insurance may not cover it. I’ll submit the claim and see what happens.

I attended one of the children’s holiday programs; interesting, I haven’t done that in a long while. This particular program shared some of the worst music I’ve heard from an elementary school. No kidding it was awful. After that painful experience we returned home to share some ice-cream which was a big hit with the kids.

It seems that I’m on a spending binge lately or maybe it is that everything I want just costs a lot of money. Either way I’m going through the dollars fast. The one bright note is that gasoline prices continue to fall and that is very good news when driving a full-sized pickup truck that only gets 15 mpg. I’m still shocked by the speed people drive here and the amount of traffic is much more than I remembered it from my prior visits.

I got the christmas lights up and on a timer they look nice, I wish I was good at taking night photos. I’ll give it a try later and see if I can get a good enough one to post.

I still suffer from terrible heartburn and I have an appointment with a specialist later in the month. I’m not looking forward to that appointment as there will be tests that will be uncomfortable. In the meantime I have a new medication to help with the problem.

I arrived Tuesday evening late from Mexico. The trip to Vail seemed a lot longer this time even thought the wait time at the border was not very long. I had to stop at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy in Calexico for some refills on my medications even with calling ahead they didn’t have one of the refills and I didn’t want to wait till the next day to get it so I left for Yuma. In Yuma it was time to fill the gas tank and my tummy so I stopped at Denny’s. Yuma is not that big of a place but the pace is definitely faster than I’m used to in San Felipe. The traffic seemed heavy to me, I guess a lot of folks were shopping for thanksgiving and making sure they had enough of the traditional goodies.

After leaving Yuma I tummy gave me some problems and as usual Arizona still has many rest-stops closed so I had to keep a watchful eye out for a restaurant or gas station with “facilities”. I found two and felt better. I took a break at Date Land and walked around the store for a while and got some Gator Aide as I felt dehydrated. I think I got fed some caffeinated coffee and with the emergency pit stops I was behind in fluids. The trip from Date Land to Casa Grande was boring, but quiet. I stopped at a truck stop and yes another Denny’s for something to eat and to stretch my legs a bit. Then on to Tucson, the traffic through Tucson was lighter than normal but fast. I’m not used to driving fast anymore and it makes me nervous. I know in a few days I’ll be driving as fast as the others but it was night and just arriving I was a very watchful.

I got to the exit close to my house that has a Walmart and decided to get some fresh food to eat at the house. When walking from my truck into the store I got out of breath, seriously out of breath. I did a quick evaluation of myself and I had no pain just not enough air. I took my time and walked very slowly for while and then I recovered. I knew I better get checked out so made a mental note to call my doctor’s office in the morning.

Arrived at my house and found it all in good shape thanks to my DIL and son who look after the house for me. They even cleaned the house in anticipation of my return. I sure appreciate them doing that.

In the morning I called the doctor’s office and they got me in that day. After an exam and several tests and an x-ray the preliminary diagnoses is I have had an asthma attack and it may be caused by an allergy. I am now the proud own of an inhaler and taking Prednisone for a few days to help breathe better. It seems to be working, I only get shortness of breath once a day now.

I had Thanksgiving dinner with the family and it was lovely everyone got on just fine and there was a lot of catching up on events since I have been in Mexico. As usual my DIL cooking was a hit how she can work the hours she does and still whip out a holiday dinner for a big family is amazing. Black friday I went shopping, I know crazy eh? The stores, the ones I went to didn’t seem to be that busy and I got some stuff to decorate the house and started on my shopping list for the house in San Felipe. My to-do list while in the US is slowly getting whittled down, still lots of things to get done, yet I can see that it will almost all get accomplished.

I took a few photos, the one of the dinner table was without the family because when they all showed up I was too busy to take more photos. So, for your viewing enjoyment the photos are posted above.

Return for Dr’s appointments

I was having a good time in Mexico then I got ill. I felt pressure in my chest tingling in my toes and nausea. I also had a time when I fainted in my chair that was scary. So I went for a visit to the local Dr. in Mexico he took an EKG compared it to a previous one and suggested that I see my Doctors in Tucson. The trip from Mexico was uneventful made the trip in twelve hours. That left me very tired. The following day I was moving a hose to water some trees when I felt pressure in my chest, dizzy, weak and ill. I went into the house and rested didn’t feel better so I took a nitro tablet and the symptoms went away. In fifteen minutes the symptoms were back so I took another nitro tablet and the symptoms were less severe but still very evident. I got very concerned and went to the ER where based on my previous history I was admitted for evaluation. The following day I had tests done and they were all negative for a cardiac problem. Nothing in my blood tests indicted that I had a problem with anything else so I was discharged from the hospital with a promise to follow up with consults with my doctors. Still don’t feel well sometimes. Will see what the doctors come up with.

The monsoon rains have hit Tucson the past few days there has been flooding and damage. The rains seem to have helped the trees and other vegetation a lot. Amazing what rain can do.

Will post later as things develop.

We won’t be doing much outside for a while as it gets to hot for me to work outside. I’ll take a few trips and with the help of family someone will be here to look after my plants, trees and the house. I still like the house and I’m going to make some improvements later. One of the improvements is a patio shade for the East side of the house to keep that side of the house cooler next summer. It will make a nice place to enjoy the outdoors the rest of the year too. So looking forward to the Fall when temperatures abate and I can work outside more. I’m also looking forward to the holidays when I can decorate the house with all the usual holiday decorations.

Guest Bath

The Guest Bath is done, I spent the day installing the vinyl it looks pretty good if I say so myself. I’m getting good at installing these vinyl planks. I hope they hold up for a few years. Here are the photo of my work.

A few more projects completed

I have been working on a few home improvement projects. I have installed mini-blinds in all the bedrooms and the kitchen dinning area. I also painted the vent covers in the bathrooms they were a dingy yellow and now are a bright and clean-looking white. I also installed new vinyl floor covering in the master bath it mimics oak flooring and it looks much better than the original vinyl floor covering. I am planning on putting new vinyl in the guest bath also I just have to give my back a rest for a day or two before attempting that job.

A new problem arose; suddenly one of my lamps wouldn’t work seems the wall socket is dead, then I found my closet light didn’t work and my dinning room and kitchen ceiling lights don’t work. The circuit breakers are not popped. All the other circuits are working well so the lights not working must be in a series and something went wrong or broke cutting off the power. Ah, the joys of home ownership !

Here are some photos of the work I’ve done.
